I am not a Doomer, but I also disagree with a conclusion that current AI systems are incapable of stimulus free, unbouned creativity.

I seen systems driven by curiosity in how to manipulate their environment as far back as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzuYEStsQxc

Here curiosity driven AI masters games that lack feedback.

Or here, teams of AIs playing hide and seek finding very creative strategies

Over the years I seen many examples where AIs, given a task, surprised researches in their ability to bend the rules and find solutions that are correct but not solutions researches wanted :D Which is actually example that could validate some of Doomers fears.

Lately there where examples where LLMs were given access and tasked with playing games like Minecraft or Sims.

Like here is paper where they played a village and organised a birthday party by spreading rumours about it

Are these examples of unbounded creativity?

Yes, one can argue that there is stimuly, they were given a "mission". But are humans not given a missions of how to be a human? Slowly as we grow and learn what it means? From other humans?
